Change-log:
- We changed the way Google authorization works. When you open one of your grade books, the app will login and will save the authorization token. This authorization token is then used when you access a student grades, making this process significantly faster.
- FEATURE: You can now select spreadsheet columns that are greater than column T.
- FEATURE: Long-pressing on a student name gives you an option to edit their grade. We did this so you didn’t have to load each students grade report every time you wanted to edit a grade.
- BUG FIX: Before, if you entered a spreadsheet name or display name with a single quote ( ‘ ) the app would crash. This was due to the way we were storing data to MySQL. You can now add grade books with a single quote in the name.

Would it be possible for you to allow the app to open the same assignment for all students at once, so ALL marks for that one assignment can be inputted before the gradebook is updated? It just seems to be an inefficient process to input one student’s grade at a time, update it in the gradebook, then repeat the process for the next student, and so on.

It would also be a great addition to the app to be able to delete a student from the gradebook.

Paul,
Regarding your first comment: we are working on a feature that we are currently calling “grade session”, which we think will address some of your concerns. It is still on the drawing board, but the basic idea is sort of what you described.
We agree with your concern, which is why we added the “Edit Grade” option if you long press on a student’s name. We still think we can make grading more efficient, but that was our temporary solution.
Regarding your second comment: although this might not be ideal, you can currently delete a student if you go into your Google Spreadsheet and delete the row.
We will add a delete student feature to the next version of grade book.
Again, thanks for all the good feedback!

Will future options allow you to “weight” grades? For example, tests might be worth 50% of the final grade while homework is only worth 25% of the final grade. Thanks.

Bill,
We are currently working on setting up a “Final Grade Column” option.
However, in the mean time, if you need this option, you could create a final grade column in your spreadsheet, and enter in a formula to calculate grade percentages. I realize this isn’t an ideal solution, but this is the temporary fix until we get this feature implemented.

I’m test driving the attendance app and am really interested in the grade book, but I can’t seem to find it in the market (no matter how I try). Has it been removed?

Jim,
The Grade Book app is still there. If you search the market for “grade book”, it is the first entry.
Another way you can find it is by finding the attendance app in the market, and then clicking “View more applications”. This will pull up all of our Android apps.
What version of Android are you running?

I am running 1.6 on mytouch 3g.
I tried searching via bar code, market search, market “more applications” and haven’t had any luck.

Jim,
Just checking in to see if you’ve had any luck.
I just put some direct links to all of our apps on the main page. If you click on them from an Android phone it should search for the app in the market by the package name.

Thanks, but no luck.
Every link I try brings me to no results.
But I did find it on AppBrain (something I hadn’t heard of until tonight) and it says I need Android 2.1. So I’m assuming thats my issue.

Jon just launched an update that should fix the issue he noted below. You should be able to find it in the market now.

Jim,
We will look into this issue. Are you using Android 1.6+?
We set the app so that the minimum version should be 1.6…hmm…

Jim,
We just noticed we accidentally had one of the settings wrong…
We will release an update very soon, allowing any device that runs at least Android 1.6 to download the app.
We will notify you when this change is made! Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for bringing this to our attention!
